Biographies
in Oslo at the age of 23, and two years later she performed as a soloist with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. Her engagements as solo pianist, chamber musician and accompanist has taken her to many countries, and she has featured at various festivals, including the Bergen International Festival, the Oslo Contemporary Festival and the November Festival in Moscow.
She has a close association with 'Troldhaugen', Edvard Grieg's home, where she has performed Grieg’s music in numerous concerts and recorded several CD’s with Griegs music. Her discography also includes highly acclaimed recordings of works by Karen Tanaka and Olivier Messiaen. Signe Bakke is a professor at the Grieg Academy, University of Bergen.
TURID BAKKE BRAUT graduated from the Bergen Music Conservatory in 1978 as a pianist and singer. In 1969 she was awarded 1st prize at the National Youth Piano Competition. She made her debut in Oslo in 1976. As a pianist she graduated from the Royal College of Music and Drama, London, in 1979, and she was awarded her diploma at the Norwegian State Academy of Music in Oslo in 1981.
From 1990 she was working as a pianist and teacher at the Trondheim Music Conservatory, and since 2002 she is an associate professor of The Grieg Academy in Bergen
Turid Bakke Braut has soloed with several professional symphony orchestras in Norway, and performed in radio and television. She has toured abroad in countries such as Japan, USA, Russia, Germany and Spain.
She plays regularly at Troldhaugen, the home of Edvard Grieg. She has been participating in several CD productions of Norwegian music and is working a lot as an accompanist of singers.
Signe Bakke and Turid Bakke Braut are sisters and have been playing together since childhood. They have given many concerts as a piano duo and recorded a CD with Edvard Grieg’s works for four hands.
