During her career, she has done a broad range of performances as a soloist, chamber musician, accompanist for singers, pianist in the contemporary music ensemble BIT-20 as well as in the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. She has been closely affiliated with Edvard Grieg Museum, Troldhaugen, where she regularly has given concerts for many years andjrecorded several CDs with works by Edvard Grieg.
She has been engaged by the Bergen International Festival and has performed at the Oslo contemporary music festival “Ultima” and at many festivals abroad. Her collaborations with composers have resulted in first performances of works by Ketil Hvoslef, Morten Eide Pedersen, Rebecka Ahvenniemi and the japanese composer Karen Tanaka. The critically acclaimed CD, Crystalline, with piano works by Karen Tanaka (2L, 2011) was chosen as “Selection of the month” by the japanese newspaper Asahi.
TURID BAKKE BRAUT is associate professor in accompaniment at the Grieg Academy, Bergen, where she has been employed since 2001. From 1990 until 2001 she was assistant professor in piano and accompaniment at NTNU, Trondheim and from 1983-86 in accompaniment at the Norwegian Academy of music, Oslo.
She studied at Bergen Music conservatory where she graduated both as a pianist and singer in 1978. In 1976, 21 years old, she made her debut as a pianist in Oslo and was a soloist with the Oslo Philharmonic orchestra in 1977. In 1979 she got her exam from Royal College of music and drama in London and made her diploma in solo piano and chamber music at the Norwegian Academy of Music in 1981.
Turid Bakke Braut has soloed with several professional sympony orchestras in Norway. She also has been performing at the Bergen International Festival, on television and radio. Her touring abroad has been to countries such as Japan, USA, Russia, Germany and Spain. On regular basis she plays at Troldhaugen.
She has been participating in several CDes with Norwegian music, mostly as a pianist, but also as a singer. She also has been working as an accompanist for singers, as a choirleader and giving concerts inviting poets into her projects. Currently she is researching women composers as a part of her work at the Grieg Academy.
