BIOGRAPHY
The Berliner Camerata succeeds ...in doing what not many independent orchestras achieve: to perform on a high artistic level and set new standards every year, without public subsidies. In fact, the Berliner Camerata is one of the most popular chamber orchestras of the German capital! Since its foundation in 2009, the Berliner Camerata has presented high-quality classical music for sophisticated connoisseurs. This young, internationally staffed orchestra is directed by the exceptional violinist Olga Pak. Several factors are decisive for the choice of the orchestra’s members: Besides musical excellence, their joy in playing music and their ability to work in a team are highly valued characteristics. The fundamental idea of the Camerata is that of a union shaped by the different contributions of its musicians. The orchestra aims at giving each of its members the possibility to influence the artistic choices at any time – be it in a programmatic way by suggesting new compositions for the repertoire, or by taking over a solo part. This way of working allows for individual progress through mutual artistic inspiration. It is what distinguishes the Berliner Camerata from many other orchestras.

The orchestra’s repertoire comprises popular classical pieces as well as modern compositions. It seeks to pass on its enthusiasm for classical music to both adepts and novices to the classical world. The Berliner Camerata debuted with the program “Vivaldi meets Piazzolla” in front of an enthralled audience in the big hall of Oslo Concert House in 2009. This was the beginning of a successful tour to some of the most beautiful concert halls, cathedrals and churches all over the world.

During the past years, the orchestra has established itself on two levels: Firstly, the increasing number of concerts has enabled the orchestra to tie a number of permanent musicians to themselves. These musicians fulfil the musical and interpersonal requirements of the orchestra. Secondly, they have succeeded in creating a continuous collaboration with a row of prestigious musicians such as Guy Braunstein, Avi Avital, Mark Gothoni, Yury Revich, Yorck Kronenberg, Giuliano Sommerhalder, Gerd Albrecht, John Schlaefli, Nigel Kennedy, Nils Landgren, Valer-Barna Sabadus, Roman Patkolo, and Iskandar Widjaja, resulting in many unforgettable concerts.
In addition to its own concert series in the Berlin Philharmonie, guest performances in Musikverein Vienna, Tonhalle Zürich, Laeiszhalle Hamburg, Liederhalle Stuttgart, Gewandhaud Leipzig, Oslo Concert House, Berliner Dom – and many other prestigious concert halls around the world – are regularly on the programme of the ensemble. On international tours throughout the world, the orchestra continues to breathe new life onto the classical scene.
