- Yes, life is as strange as
folk songs. We don't know if
they were meant to be in major or minor key... Some of the melodies are exquisitely beautiful. At any rate I have written down chord progression that are outrageous. However,
in my defense I must say that they did not originate at the
piano, but in my mind.

Born in China in 1994, YIQIU CHEN is currently pursuing her master degree at the Yale School of Music, where she studies with Aldo Parisot.

Chen has won numerous awards in the United States, including the 1st prize in the Mary West Solo Competition, the Schubert Club Student Scholarship Competition, the Rochester Music Guide Scholarship Competition and the Austin Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition. She was also the winner of the concerto competition at the Eastman School of Music in 2014.

Chen gave her debut in Wuhan, China, at the age of 14 in 2008. In 2009 and 2010, she performed as a soloist with Austin Symphony Orchestra (Minnesota) and the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra. In 2014, she performed as a soloist with Eastman Symphony Orchestra in Rochester New York, and the National Repertory Orchestra in Breckenridge Colorado.

Chen also performs regularly as a chamber and orchestra musician. She has performed at numerous international festivals, including the Pacific Music Festival, Colorado College Music Festival, Bravo! Music Festival in Minnesota and the Great Wall International Music Academy in Beijing. She has worked in coaching and master classes with Steven Doan, Richard Aaron, Hans Jensen, and Allan Harris, as well as the Jerusalem quartet, Brentano quartet, Ying quartet and the Juilliard quartet.

Chen attended Wuhan Conservatory of Music in China when she was nine years old, where she studied with professor Man Long. In 2009, Chen came to the United States with a full scholarship to Shattuck-St. Mary’s School in Minnesota. In 2012, she graduated from high school with high distinction, and was accepted to eight top music conservatories in the United States. She attended Eastman School of Music where she studied with David Ying. In 2016, she graduated from Eastman with high distinction and was accepted to Yale with a full scholarship.

After finishing his studies in Europe, pianist LEONARD LINDWELD decided to extend his musicaleducation overseas, with Stanislav Ioudenitch at Park University’s International Center for Music in Kansas City.

Lindweld, born in Stockholm, Sweden, started to study the piano when he was 6 years old, and entered a school dedicated to music when he was 12. After winning the Silver medal at the 20th competition for young musicians in Barletta, Italy, and 1st prize at the Shavshinsky Music Competition in St. Petersburg, Lindweld decided to further his musical studies by taking part in a summer academy at Como in Italy.

Artists and Professors for whom Lindweld has performed include William Grant Naboré, Dang Thai Son, Ben Goetzke, Menahem Pressler, Jan Jiracek, Leif Ove Andsnes, and Matti Raekallio.

Lindweld has also been broadcast on Swedish television and Russian radio. After winning the 1st International music competition, Stockholm, he has been featured in the Royal series, Music at the Palace, several times, and in Kansas City, where he has performed solo in the Kauffman center for Music. He is currently a master student at Grieg Academy of Music in Bergen, where he works with Professor Einar Røttingen.

Besides giving solo recitals and playing chamber music, Lindweld has a drive to promote contemporary music written by his fellow colleagues, which is why he is currently working on a project that he hopes will encourage similar collaboration between young performers and young composers.
