- Yes, life is as strange as
folk songs. We don't know if
they were meant to be in major or minor key... Some of the melodies are exquisitely beautiful. At any rate I have written down chord progression that are outrageous. However,
in my defense I must say that they did not originate at the
piano, but in my mind.

BIOGRAPHIES

DIEGO LUCCHESI was born in Piacenza, Italy. After studies in his native town, he was accepted as a student of Thomas Friedi at the Geneva University of Music, where he received his soloist’s diploma with honours in 2001, and his orchestral diploma in 2002.

He was the solo clarinetist in the Gustav Mahler Jugend-Orchester in the years 2002-2003, whereupon he was employed as principal bass clarinetist in the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra in 2003. As a dedicated orchestral musician, he makes frequent guest appearances with orchestras all over Europe, including the Oslo Philharmonic, Philharmonia Orchestra, the BBC Symphony, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, and the Dutch Radio Orchestra, under prestigious conductors such as Abbado, Boulez, Chung, Dutoit, and Welser-Möst.

The composition “Still Panic”, by the composer Henrik Hellstenius, was commissioned for Diego by the Bergen Philharmonic, and premiered in April 2016 under the direction of Edward Gardner. Diego teaches at the Grieg Academy in Bergen, and frequently plays with the contemporary music ensemble “Bit20”.

JÖRG BERNING
comes from Düsseldorf, Germany. He received his first cello lessons at the age of 11, and later studied at the Music academies in Düsseldorf and Cologne. Among his teachers are Jürgen Wolf and Heinrich Schiff, and he has also followed master classes with musicians such as Zara Nelsova, William Pleeth and Truls Mörk.

In 1991, he was the “Resident Artist” at the Banff Centre in Canada. After several years of freelance activity, including principal cello posts in orchestras such as the Düsseldorfer Bach-Collegium, the Westdeutsche Kammeroper Neuss, and the Westdeutsche Sinfonia Köln, he was employed in the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra in 1987. Jörg is an active chamber musician, and his iniatives have resulted in works commissioned from Ketil Hvoslef and Áskell Másson (Reykjavík), and tours to Iceland in year 2000.

In 2012, he formed the Coriolis Quartet, which has distinguished itself in many concert venues in the Bergen region.

KNUT CHRISTIAN JANSSON studied the piano with Jiří Hlinka at the Grieg Academy in Bergen, and with Einar Henning Smebye at the Norwegian Academy of Music. In addition to his piano studies, he has also studied church music at the Grieg Academy.

He has appeared as a soloist with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, and is also an active chamber musician, collaborating with musicians such as Tine Thing Helseth and Christian Lindberg. The last few years, he has been an accompanist for the singers Halvor Festervoll Melien and Hilde Haraldsen Sveen, with whom he has given numerous concerts. He has also worked on the borders between the arts, including a concert series at the Bergen Art Museum, together with art historian Gunnar Danbolt. He is frequently engaged as pianist for the ensemble Bit20, and also as an accompanist at the Grieg Academy. Jansson has appeared at numerous festivals, including the Bergen National Festival, and as ”Pianist of the Week” at the Troldhaugen museum for the last 5 years.

He has also distinguished himself as a fortepianist, both in concertos by Mozart, in Schuberts ”Winterreise”, and in performances of Haydn’s ”Creation”, together with the Bergen Philharmonic.

The last years, he has also made frequent appearances as a conductor, with performances of Mozart’s Requiem, Händels Messiah, and Bach’s Passion of St. John.
