BIOGRAPHY

TOR ERIK SEIME PETTERSEN studied at the Grieg Academy in Bergen, the University of Stavanger, and the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm, with the pianists Audun Kayser, Håkon Austbø and Staffan Scheja among his teachers.

Pettersen is regularly performing as a soloist and chamber musician, and he is also in great demand as an accompanist, with regular engagements for conservatories, music schools and orchestras throughout southern Norway. He has given solo performances with several orchestras and wind bands, including Khatchaturian's piano concerto with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, and Grieg's piano concerto on several occasions. As a chamber musician, Pettersen has performed throughout Europe and in the USA, including concerts in Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, Finland, The Czech Republic, Estonia, Lithuania, Macedonia and Kosovo. He is also a frequently appearing artist at the Grieg in Bergen festival and the Bergen International Festival. Pettersen is presently working as an accompanist, piano teacher and freelance pianist in the Bergen area.

Pettersen has several times been a prize-winner at the National Youth Piano Competition in Norway. He takes a great interest in presenting lesser known Norwegian piano music for the public, especially music by the composers of western Norway, such as Geirr Tveitt, Fartein Valen and Harald Sæverud. Owing to a special interest in early performance practice and the composers of the classical era, he has also taken classes on the fortepiano, and he is currently working on a long-term project studying the complete cycle of piano sonatas by Mozart and Beethoven.
