MAI GOTO is a graduate of Osaka University of Music, Japan, where she studied with Atsuhiko Shimizu. She continued her piano studies with György Nádor at the Liszt Academy in Budapest, and in 2012 was awarded a Master degree in performance from the Grieg Academy, University of Bergen, with Signe Bakke and Torleif Torgersen as her piano teachers.

Ms. Goto is the recipient of numerous awards from music contests, including the 1st prize in the “24th International Music Competition Rovero d'Oro” in Italy, 2009.

Mai Goto currently lives in Bergen, where she has an active performing career. She has frequently performed for the concert series of the Siljustøl Museum. In 2013, she was the pianist in the production “Nina Grieg – A great little woman” in Grieg’s villa, Troldhaugen, which was later performed in Provence, France. In the same year, she was soloist in Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto no. 2 on a US tour conducted by Trond Sæverud, and in 2014 she was soloist in Beethoven’s Piano Concerto no. 5 with the University of Bergen Symphony Orchestra.

Since 2013, Ms. Goto has performed annually for the “Grieg in Bergen” concert series together with violist Oliviero Hassan and violinist Michael Süssmann.

In 2016, as composer and arranger, Mai Goto developed and performed “Issun Boshi,” a musical drama based on a traditional Japanese story, as well as “Klovnen Klem”, a musical drama for children.

In 2017, she was a soloist for the lunch concert series at Troldhaugen, gave solo piano and chamber music concerts for the ‘Grieg in Bergen’ festival, and toured Italy, Belgium, Cyprus and Spain. In 2017-2018, she also began performing as a duo with professor David Hebert (voice and trumpet), with whom she had concerts for university music departments in Japan, Norway and Poland. In 2018 she has developed original music for a new drama production called Musikken i Underverden with professional actress Karin Stautland. For the summer of 2018, she has been contracted for around 35 performances as a soloist and accompanist for singers in the Grieg Story project, and continues with several evening concerts for the Grieg in Bergen festival.
