BIOGRAPHIES

Praised for his “enchanting tone,” “technical brilliance,” and “charisma” (Badische Zeitung), Russian-Swedish violinist PHILIP ZUCKERMAN’s debut performances took place at the age of six in fundraiser concerts for Swedish charity organization “Världens Barn”.

1st prize winner of the 2018 Padova International Music Competition, as well as winner of Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra’s Soloist Competition, De Unges Konsert, recent and upcoming concerts include solo engagements with Baden-Baden Philharmonic, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Camerata Nova and Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto.

He has also performed in venues such as Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall and Peter Jay Sharp Theater, South Bank Centre in London, and Stockholm Philharmonic Concert Hall. Chamber music holds a special place in Philip’s life, and he has appeared in concert with mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato, and members of the Cleveland, Cavani, and Vertavo string quartets.

He has also made appearances at Aurora Chamber Music Festival, Casalmaggiore Music Festival, Gotland Chamber Music Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, Tanglewood Music Festival, and Usedom Music Festival.

Philip recently finished his studies at The Juilliard School with Itzhak Perlman and Donald Weilerstein. Past teachers include Natasha Beshulya, Catherine Cho, and Ulf Wallin. Philip plays on a Jean Baptiste Vuillaume violin on generous loan from the private collection of Dr. Peter Hauber, Berlin.

THORMOD RØNNING KVAM is considered one of the most sought-after Norwegian pianists of his generation. He performs regularly both as a soloist, chamber musician and accompanist in all the major Scandinavian concert venues and increasingly throughout Europe.

As well as having performed live in several radio and television broadcasts, he has made numerous concert appearances in Sweden, Russia, Hungary, Italy, Austria, Germany, Holland and England.

In 2010 Kvam was invited to study with Prof. Jiři Hlínka, former teacher of the Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Andsnes, as one of his very last students. He is currently finishing his Diploma studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London under Diana Ketler, where he also graduated with a Master of Arts degree under Prof. Christopher Elton in 2017.

Recently, Rønning Kvam won the 2017 Musician’s Prize from the Forsberg and Aulie Foundation, one of Norway’s most acknowledged grants for young classical artists. He has also been awarded the TICON Prize (2017), Buskerud Culture Prize (2016), the highly acclaimed Dobloug Foundation Scholarship (2015) and the Yamaha Music Foundation Scholarship as the only Norwegian finalist (2014).

Having worked with several national festivals and ensembles in later years, among these the Risør Chamber Music Festival, he is becoming increasingly recognised for his creative leadership and drive to develop younger audiences for classical music. He is currently Artistic Director of a new concert series to be launched in Oslo in late 2018.
