BIOGRAPHIES  

BRAHMS PIANO QUARTET

Born in 1971, MARCIN SIKORSKI is recognized to be „the most outstanding Polish chamber pianist of his generation”. His performances are highly acclaimed both by the audience and critics.
His has given concerts with Bartek Nizioł, Erin Keefe, Reiko Otani, Haik Kazazyan, Li Teng, Mei Diyang, AgataSzymczewska, Bartosz Bryła, Łukasz Błaszczyk, RafałKwiatkowski. From 2012 he collaborates with violinist Soyoung Yoon, winner of Wieniawski Competition. They played together on many festivals in Europe. "In duet they have created a universe that has totally preoccupied the minds of the audience" wrote critic after one of them.
Marcin Sikorski graduated Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music (Katowice, Poland) as a student of Maria Szwajger-Kułakowska. In 2015 he recived post-doctoral degree at the Academy of Music (Poznan), where he is an Assistant Professor in chamber music and an collaborative pianist. He studied piano and chamber music in master classes conducted by Isaac Stern, Leon Fleisher, Bruno Canino, Emanuel Ax, Erica Frieser and the members of the LaSalle, Juilliard, Emerson and Guarneri Quartets.
In 2001 he took part in the Isaac Stern Chamber Music Workshop at Carnegie Hall in New York and played a concert there.
He is a winner of chamber music competitions in Paris and Gdansk and was a laureate in Pörtschach, Vercelli and Kraków. As an accompanist he won awards at several international violin competitions including SzymanowskiInternational Violin Competition, Tansman International Competition in Łódź, 2011 Wieniawski Competition in Poznań and Aram Khachaturian Violin Competition 2012 in Yerevan (Armenia). He was an official pianist of Joseph Joachim International Violin Competition Hannover, Britten Violin Competition in London, Wieniawski International Violin Competition in Poznan and International Violin Competition in Toruń.
The CD from 2006 Wieniawski Competiton with 1st prize winner – Agata Szymczewska was awarded „FRYDERYK” Prize.
He record 4 CDs with chamber music of Franck, Richard Strauss, Ravel, Prokofiev, Schnittke, Shostakovich, Lutosławski and appear on another 20 CDs.
He works in Music Academy Poznań and resides in Bydgoszcz with his wife Magda and three children – Sabina, Staś and Leoś.

KRZYSZTOF POLONEK, born in Kraków, initially studied as a young student at the Julius-Stern-Institute, University of the Arts, Berlin with Prof. Tomasz Tomaszewski before he obtained his degree at this university. He played his concert exam (Konzertexamen) under the supervision of Prof. Thomas Brandis at the Lübeck University of Music. Furthermore he has attended masterclasses with the professors R. Kussmaul, K. Węgrzyn, K. Sassmannshaus, I. Gitlis and Z. Bron.
Krzysztof has performed as soloist with the Lübeck Philharmonic Orchestra, the State Orchestra at Frankfurt (Oder), the Baden-Baden Philharmonic Orchestra, the Cracow Philharmonic Orchestra, among others. As a chamber musician and soloist he has been invited to renowned festivals like the “Music in old Cracow” festival, the Hubermann Violin Festival, the Aspen Music Festival, the Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad and the Max-Reger Tage at Weiden.
Up to 2009 he taught at the Music Academy in Breslau, where he successfully finished his doctoral dissertation under the supervision of Prof. Jarosław Pietrzak. Krzysztof has been the concertmaster of the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Rundfunk Sinfonieorchester Berlin. Since 2009 he has been a member of the Berliner Philharmoniker.

OLIVIERO HASSAN has been a member of Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra's viola section since 2008.
Having grown up in Berlin, his first violin teachers had been Amadeus Heutling of the Berlin Philharmonic, and Abraham Jaffé. It was only in 2007 that a befriended violist recommended him to try the viola, and Oliviero instantly took to the beauty of the viola's warm sound. He then attended several viola masterclasses with, among others, Lars Anders Tomter and Lawrence Power at the Aurora Masterclass 2011 in Sweden.
Before joining the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Oliviero has played with numerous German orchestras, such as SWR Baden-Baden & Freiburg, the NDR Radiophilharmonie, Hamburger Symphoniker, and others.

KATARZYNA POLONEK, born in Poznań, studied violoncello at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna in Prof. Angelica May’s and Prof. Wolfgangs Aichinger’s class. She obtained her concert exam (Konzertexamen) at the University of the Arts Berlin in Prof. Markus Nyikos‘ class, having attended masterclasses taught by notable professors like M. Rostropowitsch, N. Schachowska, A. Orkisz, S. Firlej, M. Sadlo and Z. Nelsova.
Katarzyna is an award-winning musician; her success comprises polish and international awards like the Grand Prix at the Kazimierz-Wiłkomirski-Competition, the 1. Prize at the International Cello Competition in Liezen, Austria; 3. Place at the International Johannes-Brahms-Competition in Pörtschach, Austria as well as the prestigious scholarship of the Herbert-von-Karajan-Center, Vienna.
Katarzyna has performed as a soloist with many orchestras in Germany and Poland, recorded for the Polish State Radio and Television Service and performed at world-renowned festivals.
Katarzyna works together with the Berliner Philharmoniker and the Staatskapelle Berlin; previously she worked with the Vienna Symphonic Orchestra and the Rundfunk Sinfonieorchester Berlin; she had the opportunity to play under the direction of conductors like Daniel Barenboim, Sir Simon Rattle, Marek Janowski, Ivan Fischer and Bernard Haitink.
After she has finished her doctoral dissertation and habilitation, Katarzyna teaches as a assistant professor for cello at the Music Academy Poznań and leads masterclasses in Szamotuły and Opole among others. Her students go on to win first prizes at international solo and chamber music competitions.
